Earth Day...My Challenge...
My challenge to you is to do something this next year to make our world a bit better...
Me - No more plastic grocery type bags in my house! I bought 5 canvas bags yesterday at one of our supermarkets for $1.00 each to take with me when I shop...plus I am sure I have a dozen or so canvas or cloth bags here in the house to use.
And, making sure I turn the water off while I brush my teeth...I usually do - but making sure I do - that can save a lot of gallons of water every year!!!

Stop & Shop supermarket made it easy for Gryphon and me. 10 for $10 on GE compact fluorescent light bulbs, and if you buy ten of them, you also get three of their reusable grocery bags for free! You can bet we took advantage of that deal - it's 80% off on the bulbs! Made it easy to convert over more of our fixtures to the energy efficient option, and now we have enough of the shopping bags for any shopping we might do.
I must admit, I am not really that savvy when it comes to being up on all the other ways to help save the earth because we try to be so basically pure in the first place. Living with Mr.Mann and his physical and medical issues prevents us from using chemicals and doing many things that we never even considered before Mr.Mann was born. I use paper bags and then recyle them at home but using cloth bags is actually a really good idea. I am a bit nervous on how many though because when I shop, I usually come home with a trunk FULL of groceries. I have a BIG one at my house, we use styrofoam plates ALL the time, from now on, I will use regular dishes!! My husband and I JUST talked about this the other day too, we said we probably could save a TON of money if we didn't use them. Thanks Sara!!
I always ask for paper bags but I use to use canvas when I was single. I usually forget now to bring them in with me when I go shopping but I know they're still in the trunk .... SO ....
I'll now make a commitment to remember to bring 'em in the store with me and only use paper if my groceries come to more than what will fit. BTW, I do have a portable cooler I use in the Summer for frozen or refrigerator items to keep 'em cold before I get home.
I was listening to NPR the other day and they were talking about the amount of energy necessary to produce the foods we eat. One way I will do my part is to grow some of my own veggies and buy locally produced produce from organic farmers.
