Getting Ready...

No, not for spring...although I hope it isn't too far away. We had snow last night but not enough to complain about or brag about.

No, I'm getting ready for a class that I'm taking this week-end...so, I will be busy cutting fabric.

Yesterday's post talked about a song that I truly feel describes me - yet most of the folks who commented didn't know the song...so here it is.

(I tried for about an hour to put the video onto my blog so that you could play it - but, I could not figure it out...so, any of my friends out there that know how to do that - I sure could use some help...)

Reminiscent of the 60s...70s...

Today was very reminiscent of the 60s and 70s - those days when we challenged the government, sang protest songs, and proclaimed our right to be Americans...

Only today, we weren't challenging the government - but rather learning about a candidate that is running for President of our great nation! And, he brought some really heavy duty players with him...

Peter Coyote - Hollywood actor was first to appear on stage and introduce two of the best of the best singers around...
Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne...
I admit it - I have been wild about Jackson Browne from day one - and you know - he hasn't changed much...gotten a little older than the last time I saw him in person - but, then I'm no spring chicken myself!
The music was great - even though the concert was short - but, they were here in support of John Edwards...and they did what they were supposed to do - bring out a good crowd - to learn about what John Edwards stands for.
Bonnie Raitt is simply outstanding...and I'd forgotten how much I like her. It was the first time I ever saw her live...and I wasn't disappointed. The Lebanon Opera House was packed to the max - don't think there was an empty seat - and it's not a small place...
It was wonderful! It was fun! It made you feel alive! It made you feel like you were a young person learning about what our government was about and what plans John Edwards had to bring his vision of America to the public.

The Boys (and Girls) In The Band...

Thinking back on the groups that were my favorites - it dawned on me that

1) Most of them aren't together anymore and/or
2) A lot of their members are dead and gone.

Groups such as: Three Dog Night, The Doobie Brothers, Queen, The Mamas and The Papas, ELO, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Chicago, The Jackson Five, The Supremes, Fleetwood Mac, Four Tops, Bad Company, Poco, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, and The Eagles! And, that's probably just a few in no particular order that I can think of off the top of my head...

Yet, Sunday night was like visiting with old friends...the boys in the band - The Eagles - to be precise, were on 60 Minutes. Can you believe they are 60? When did that happen? I mean wasn't is just yesterday that we were singing "New Kid in Town", "Hotel California", "Tequila Sunrise", "Heartache Tonight", or "One of these Nights"?

The Eagles ranked right up there at the top of my favorites...yet, when they split up and went their own way no one stood out for me. Yea, Glenn Frey was interesting in his roles in Miami Vice and the only song I really liked was "Smuggler's Blues". In these last few years I've learned to appreciate Don Henley, but only because of his duets with other artists.

So, you can imagine that having a new Eagles album is just one of the best things happening right now in my corner of the world...

It seems that Deb has yet another fun thing at her blog... and it involves music. Everyone who reads this blog knows that music is right up there with books, knitting, and quilting in my life...so, I thought I'd play along...

I was 18 in 1964! Mercy, that was 43 years ago...but, I still remember the music as if it were yesterday.

1. You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling by the Righteous Brothers. Who can forget the blue eyed soul boys! That song still gives me chills. None of the songs on my list were there because I was in a teenage relationship - I didn't date much in high school...and September of that year was my first year in college...which I hated. I quit after that year. (ended up going back to college when I was 36 and my little girl started school.)

2. Oh, Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison. Everyone thinks the title of that song is just Pretty Woman - and Roy Orbison. There wasn't a woman in this world that didn't want to "be the one" in that song. What a feel good song! I always felt like he never seemed to get the "star" status that he truly deserved. That seems to happen when a group of singers come out at the same time...and he was in that mix with Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and a few others.

3. Baby Love by The Supremes. Teenage angst at its best! This was the sing out loud at the top of your voice song...I can remember going to the drive in restaurant in town and all the radios tuned to "our" station and hearing that come on the airways. Just can't beat forty cars full of teenagers singing along.

4. I Want to Hold Your Hand by the Beatles. The boys from across the Pond brought all the "I wanna sing-along" songs with them. Everyone wanted to hold their hand! The song was snappy and fun to sing...still can sing it!

5. She Loves You by The Beatles. "She loves you, yea, yea, yea!" Another crank up the radio and sing at the top of your voice songs. There was just something about the songs from that era!

And, all of the artists are still among my favorites to this day...I have either albums (yes - I do own those), cassette tapes, and cds of their music...it was a great time and great music.
