Impressionism is a movement in French painting, sometimes called optical realism because of its almost scientific interest in the actual visual experience and effect of light and movement on appearance of objects. Impressionist paintings are balanced, use colored shadows, use pure color, broken brushstrokes, thick paint, and scenes from everyday life or nature.

People that like Impressionist paintings may not alway be what is deemed socially acceptable. They tend to move on their own path without always worrying that it may be offensive to others. They value friendships but because they also value honesty tend to have a few really good friends. They do not, however, like people that are rude and do not appreciate the ideas of others. They are secure enough in themselves that they can listen to the ideas of other people without it affecting their own final decisions. The world for them is not black and white but more in shades of grey and muted colors. They like things to be aestically pleasing, not stark and sharp. There are many ways to view things, and the impresssionist personality views the world from many different aspects. They enjoy life and try to keep a realistic viewpoint of things, but are not very open to new experiences. If they are content in their live they will be more than likely pleased to keep things just the way they are.

When I was 25...

Two of my friends, Naomi and Shephard, did this fun MEME...the premise is to look at your life and see what five things that at 25 years of age you would never have thought would have happened to you.

Twenty-five - that was 1971 for me...thirty-seven years ago. I had:

already seen a President assassinated;
lived through the terror of being in Florida during the Bay of Pigs and thinking that we were going to be blown to hell and back;
survived Hurricanes Donna (1960), Alma (1966) and Gladys (1968); and,
attended college and had been working since I was 16.

On the music scene Rod Stewart was looking for a Reason to Believe that Maggie May would still be around; Janis was singing about Me and Bobby McGee; Melanie had a Brand New Key, and George Harrison had My Sweet Lord; Three Dog Night was telling us all about some bullfrog in Joy To The World, and Cher was lamenting her past in Gypsys, Tramps, and Thieves. Joan Baez was telling the story of The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down and in the number one spot, Carol King was telling us It's Too Late.

1) At 25 I never dreamed that I would have a child or that I could love someone so very much! Yet, at 30 I chose to have a child - and had a beautiful little girl who I named Tara Danielle. She was tiny - and it was a difficult labor - with some very scary moments. But, my doctor was wonderful and pulled both of us through. She has grown into a beautiful woman! And, I am still her proud Mommy!

2) At 25 I never dreamed that I would move away from Florida or ever leave the little house I bought when I was 21 and lived in since I was 12! I thought I would grow old in that house...and I sort of did. I never moved from it until I was 52...

3) At 25 I never dreamed that I would live in New England. My relationship with New England goes back to when I was 21 or so...a friend wanted to go home but didn't want to drive all the way back to Boston alone. And, she wasn't about to leave her convertible behind! So, she said if I'd ride along she would pay for me to fly back home. So, I took a two week vacation from my job - and came up to the Boston area. Traveled all over the Cape and Boston...and promptly fell in love with the area.

Once home thought about moving, but the time wasn't right - Boston was just too big for me. So, considered Nashua...but, still was too scared to make the big move that far away from family.

At 52, moved with my partner to Tennessee and spent six years there...then finally, at 58, I planted my feet in New England in the state of New Hampshire...about an hour and a half from Nashua and a couple hours from Boston. Who would have thunk it!

4) At 25 I never believed that someone would have enough faith in my writing to hire me as a writer for their magazine. Yet, that is just what happened during my early 30s! And, I worked for them for several years covering the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association), and the Legends of Tennis. Not only did I write articles but eventually had two or three different columns...did travel writing...and got to go to a Super Bowl! Plus have a wonderful career as an author.

Nor did I believe that I would serve on the Board of Directors for one of the largest writers organizations in the world...and get to travel to places that I only dreamed of: Hawaii; Vancouver, British Columbia; St. Louis; Chicago; New Orleans; and more than once to New York City among many other cities.

5) At 25 I never dreamed that I would ever be in a long term relationship...yet, I was...and while I no longer am...I have no regrets! My life has been filled with love! And much happiness! And, it will continue to be filled with love and happiness and with friends and family that mean so much to me.

Snow...and a Quiz...

We woke up to snow! There was just a dusting on the road and walkway...but, now at nearly 12:30 in the afternoon, there is enough that when I walk in it - the snow is to the top of my shoe.

A year ago, I would have waited until it stopped snowing and the streets were plowed before venturing out. Today, I went to walk the dogs with neither of those things having happened. I guess I am growing more.

A few weeks ago, Pat over at Gatherings tagged me to do the 7 Things About Me. So, instead of just doing general stuff about me...I thought I'd talk about one of my favorite things...no, not knitting, quilting, or reading...FOOD...

So here we go...7 Food Things About Me.

1. The only ice cream in the world is Butter Pecan! Every now and then, I will eat Vanilla Bean or Friendly's Forbidden Chocolate which is the only Chocolate I'll eat...but for the most part it is Butter Pecan. So far my favorite brand is Edy's...and the real thing - none of this reduced fat, sugar or whatever!

2. My favorite meat is "the other white meat" - Pork. The favorite being Ham...then pork loin, chops, or roast, and then sausage. There is just nothing better than a beautiful ham coming out of the oven.

3. Growing up we raised chickens - therefore - we ate a lot of chicken. My mom could eat chicken every day! Not me! We do eat chicken quite a bit - but still not to the extent that we did when I was growing up.

4. Seafood is right up there with Pork! Favorite Shellfish: Soft Shell Crab, Oysters, and Escargot! Favorite Fish: Salmon and Rainbow Trout. We try to eat some type of seafood at least once a week. About the only seafood I don't care for is scallops and have not yet learned to like tilapia.

5. I don't do spicy!!! Mild spices are okay - but really heavy duty spicy...NO. Therefore most Mexican food is out...as some other ethnic foods.

6. Having lived in Puerto Rico as a child, I love the foods of the Caribbean...and cook them quite frequently in my home. Puerto Rican and Cuban foods rank high on my list...

7. Since I discovered the Food Channel and a few food blogs that I frequently read - my culinary tastes are expanding...and am more willing to try new foods - and recipes. Some have been keepers...others have sent me to grab the phone and call Dominos...

This week-end is going to be a busy one for me...I'm bound and determined to work on my "fall cleaning" - I didn't get to do a "spring cleaning" cause I did that at my other house before I moved...now I've got to get my new place in order...

Quiet Evening...

Spent a quiet evening last night. Did a little knitting on the Red Scarf and am wondering if the second one will be done in time to mail. If not, I will be ahead one for next year.

Watched "Mrs. Henderson Presents" with Judi Dench and Bob Hoskins. It made me laugh in places and cry in others. One of the interesting things was the special features which brought together some of the women who were the original Windmill Theatre Girls. It was interesting to hear them talk about the time. If you haven't seen it - it's worth it.

Thank you all for the compliments on my boy, Killian. He was named for a character on a television show...Jack Killian played by Gary Cole on a show called Midnight Caller.

Today plan on unpacking a few things (the stray things are always the hardest)...knitting and watching a few more movies...The Queen, CSI: Miami - Disc 1 Season One.
