Garden Meals Returns...

After a few weeks off, Garden Meals is returning for the month of October. Suzanne (L) and Stacy (R) are the ones who run the program. Only Susanne will not be there for these last few weeks and I will miss her. She runs the garden part and takes the kids or whoever is with us into the garden and teaches them about the foods that grow there.

Below is the house Suzanne built with the help of others that live in the land trust community. You only own your home and a few yards around it - the rest of the land belongs to the trust and you rent land for your garden and animals. Her home is very cozy and has (for now) no electric or running water and is surronded by woods.

Last year Suzanne began to build an outdoor brick oven...she completed it as well as a great out-door kitchen and living area. We spent some time there this past year cooking pizza in the oven. It was great fun!

Below are Suzanne and her buddy, Baxter. They live a quiet simple life off the land...and love every minute of it.

Ya know, I truly envy not the life, but her appreciation of it. I love animals and nature, but I'm missing that part that can fully embody the simple life. :(

It's heartening to see examples of people who not only understand the concept of "simplify", but who build their lives around it. I have great admiration for her, and wish I could rewind the clock a little in my own life to strip away some of the complexity.

Michele sent me to say hi today. As always, it's been a great, thought-provoking visit.
